Dear Sir
I bought a T-shirt from Benetton yesterday.
There is a sale of 15%.
The MRP of the product was Rs. 1999/- after 15% discount it came to 1699/-, but I was billed Rs. 1784/-, the calculation explained to me was as follows :
MRP : Rs. 1999/- Less : 15% discount = 1699/- Add : 5 % VAT = 1784/-.
The above amounts to double taxation, which according to me is incorrect.
Moreover there is wrong advertisement, the actual amount of discount I am getting is Rs. 215/- i.e. 215/1999=10.75% only.
I bought a shirt from blackberry there I was given a 25 % discount on MRP, no 5% VAT was added.
I am confused, both of the above are big brands. How can there is different VAT laws applicable to them.
I request you to do a research on above & issue an article, it will act as a guide to all the consumers who are being misguided.
Thanks & Regards
Sudhir Lath
