Overcharging by Airtel.

Sir/Ma’am,

I had applied for Airtel connection but decided to discontinue it around April this year (2013). A representative called me and insisted to continue the services for atleast 2-3 months and I would not be charged any rental i.e. of Rs. 499/-. Then very cunningly they did not send the bill but only message that I need to pay Rs. 600/- or so which actually included the rental amount, assuming that I would sub-consciously pay the amount without seeing the details in the bill.

Also, when I did not pay saying that I need to check the details in the bill which you have not sent then they sent the bill. I objected to it and did not use the connection after that.

They continued to send bills and in each bill they inflated the amount on some pretext or the other making the total bill till September to be Rs. 1094/- even when I did not make a single call. I asked for an explanation but they said that it has not been overcharged without giving reasons for charging of those amounts.
According to my calculations, the total amount from April-September is Rs. 215/- as compared to highly inflated amount of Rs. 1094/- which is almost 509% times more.

One day their field-officer came and said that they would waive off the rental of Rs. 499/- but I have to use the connection again by taking some plan of Rs. 99/- pm etc. I refused as I am man strictly of principles and rules.

Today, I got a letter where they threatened me of legal consequences if I do not clear the amount of Rs. 1094/-.

If I was dishonest, I could have made 50-60 STD/ISD calls worth Rs. 10,000-30,000/- and then ended the connection without payment. However, I strictly follow rules whether it benefits me or not.

Pls advice me as to what I should do as they refuse to explain that why have they charged me with undue amounts each month. Am I obliged to pay Rs. 1094/- for which no reasonable explanation has been given yet about those charges?

Also, if this matter goes for legal litigation in consumer court or whatever, what are the chances of me winning the case or losing the case? What is the likely decision to be passed by the magistrate if this matter is in litigation?

PLS REPLY ASAP. My e-mail address is [email protected] and mobile number is 9968651267. THANX.
