Non-reimbursement of Hospital Charges

Location/place: Mumbai

Name of company/service: Star Health India Insurance Co Ltd

Dear Sir,
I had a undergone a surgery for gynecology condition in Feb 2012 for which I was hospitalized for 24 ours. The health insurance company refused to reimburse the cost by saying that the medical officer who visited the hospital has reported that my first consultation with the doctor was in 2009 even after my doctor has given a certificate saying that my first consultation was in 2012. Further, the medical condition for which I was treated was not a result of a chronic disease like cancer, etc. for which the policy rule requiring a patient to hold the mediclaim for at least two years is applied. There was an “erosion on the cervix” which needed treatment. If according to the medical officer, my first consultation was in 2009 and if the diagnosis for the said treatment was made, how is it that I could have gone on without treatment for three more years posing a major risk to my health? Also, the company was not able to provide any documentary evidence to prove that my first consultation was in 2009.
Requesting you to kindly help me settle my dues at the earliest.

Sincerely,

Saba Nizami
