Complaint against www.makemytrip.com for wrong ticketing of journey from New Delhi to Champaign, USA

Location/place: Guwahati, Assam

Name of company/service: makemytrip.com

1. I had booked an air ticket for my son AMAL SAHAI through www.makemytrip.com portal using my login A/c with this travel company. The ticket booked was for a one way travel on 13.8.2013 from New Delhi to Champaign, USA, using my ICICI Bank Credit card on 15.6.2013 at 12.55 hrs. The price paid was Rs 62,699/-
2. The details of passenger entered were – Name: AMAL SAHAI; Date of birth: 10.09.1990
3. Just after the booking was done a confirmation regarding the reservation was displayed at their site which did not mention the passenger name and thus there was no clue of any wrong ticket being issued subsequently.
4. Subsequently, when the confirmed ticket was received by email on 15.6.2013 at 16.55 hrs, I was shocked to see the name of the passenger entered as AMIT SAHAI. i.e. my name, instead of AMAL SAHAI.
5. I called up the help desk of makemytrip and was told that the details on the ticket are as per the details entered at the time of booking the ticket on their website. I was also told that the ticket would need to be cancelled and a new ticket booked in the name of AMAL SAHAI. The cancellation charges to be levied would be Rs 7500/-. I was further informed that had I pointed out the mistake earlier the cancellation charges would have been only Rs 300/-.
6. I also sent an email to the service dept. of makemytrip on 16.6.2013 at 14.02 hrs to lodge a formal complaint and in response I received a mail on 23.6.2013 that as per the log details given the name of the passenger entered was AMIT SAHAI. However the date of birth shown in the log is that of my son AMAL SAHAI i.e. 10.09.1990, whereas, my d.o.b. is 19.05.1962.
7. As mentioned above how is possible that I’ll put my name and my son’s m’bile no. and his d.o.b. while booking. It is obvious if I do that it would be like deliberately throwing away my money. There was a mess-up at the online ticket booking website of www.makemytrip.com as this is not the first case of its kind. Makemytrip.com should either get the name of the passenger rectified or should bear the additional cost of cancellation and enhance ticket charges, if any.
Yours sincerely
Amit Sahai
