I have been an Airtel Platinum customer for the last 4+ years. I have been using a post-paid connection all this while. On July 10, 2014, I visited the customer relationship center in Koramangala 5th Block to request for a conversion from post-paid to pre-paid (SR No. 1794184). I was given a new sim and was told that it would be activated in 5 working days. 15 days later, the sim was still not activated. I called Airtel’s customer care number, and they conveniently washed their hands off the matter stating that I had to visit the relationship center again to find out what the problem was. I went to the same relationship center on July 25, 2014. Apparently there was a signature mismatch and I had to fill the form again. Please note that no one had the courtesy to call and inform me of this “mismatch”. I asked the center to ensure that things went smoothly this time and they promised me that within 3 working days my old sim (post-paid) would get deactivated and the new one (pre-paid) would get activated simultaneously. On July 30th, around 6 pm, my old sim stopped working. The new sim was not working either. I called up the customer care number and after transferring me multiple times back and forth, they told me that my new (pre-paid) sim would be activated in 6 hours. On July 31st I called up the customer care number again. Predictably, they tried to wash their hands off the issue yet again. First, the pre-paid department transferred me to the post-paid department. The post-paid department then stated that I have to go to the relationship center yet again to get this resolved. Today (August 2nd), I visited the relationship center and they informed me that the sim they had provided me was faulty. They said that I need to submit the documents again for getting a duplicate sim. I got all the documents and came back to the relationship center to get the new sim. The people there informed me that the new sim would be activated in 4 hours. 7 hours have passed since then. My sim has not yet been activated. I am at my wits end and stuck with no number on which people can reach me. I need a resolution to this as soon as possible and cannot afford to waste time repeatedly visiting the customer relationship center. The amount of time I have already spent on this is unbelievable. If I had to do so much work to get a simple conversion done, then what is the point of “customer care”? It almost seems like Airtel wants me to move to another service, which I have to consider now anyway.
