Location/place: Coimbatore
Name of company/service: Fun republic mall, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu
My husband, cousine, niece and I had been to Fun Republic mall in Coimbatore, Tamil nadu last Sunday (3rd march 2013). We had our camera (canon rebel t3i) with us. We also saw many guests who were using their mobile phones to click pictures. Suddenly one guy who was dressed in blue jean and white t-shirt (not in any security uniform or had an identity card) told us v were not supposed to click pictures in the mall. But we saw a bunch of guys clicking pics with mobile phone camera just next to him, he had no problem with them. When he told us not to take pics v asked him for a sign board saying photography restricted. He had no answer for that. Then we passed across to reliance trends. When v came out, a group of men dressed in blue jean and white t-shirt accompanied by a security guard surrounded us as though we were criminals and tried to snatch the camera which is worth 980$. My husband asked them to call the manager so that we can speak to him but the security guard claimed himself to be the manager and started abusing us verbally. Also was very hard and determined to grab the camera from us due to which I got scratches all over my right hand. None of the men in the group looked decent nor like an employee. Nobody was in uniform or had ID cards. They were continuously telling us to come to room and talk. After a few minutes, public gathered and started questioning them as to why we were treated like that. Immediately they started dissolving the crowd and told us also to move. We left the place. Nothing happened to us and to our camera by God’s grace.
All I want to know is,
Is it illegal to take photos inside a mall when there are no sign boards restricting the same.
Why were those men not in any uniform or ID card and monitoring people in the mall.
Why was the security guard not calling the manager but claimed himself to be the manager. He literally didn’t know how to speak to a guest and he is a security guard.
We have been to many malls but have never experienced such things ever. We don’t know what to do but don’t want this to repeat again with anyone. Please help.
