Location/place: Kolkata
Name of company/service: Aircel
My name is Gaurab Banerji and I am using 2 vodafone numbers 9830931016 for personal use and 8697923149 for my mother. I had decided to port to Aircel and submitted documents to a local store. He took 80 rupees per sim card which is total 160 rupees and i filled the form and submitted to him of 1.6.2013. I asked him why he is charging so much for porting sim and he said he will provide lifetime validity.
He issued me 2 sim cards with numbers
7278571979 iccid 89919104131121188463 (in lieu of 9830931016 porting) with mrp tag of rs 10 (porting code VK468718 valid till 5/6/13)
9804608351 iccid 89919103121140873584 (in lieu of 8697923149 porting) with mrp tag of rs 49 (porting code VK475641 valid till 16/6/13)
I waited for 2weeks for any sort of porting sms but i have received none. When I went to the shop and asked why the numbers have not been ported he told me that one of the forms (in lieu of 9830931016 porting) has come back because of signature problem. I filled up a fresh form and submitted accordingly with fresh porting code VK486586 valid till 1/7/13. For the other sim there is no word. The shop told me that the delay is because vodafone doesnt want to release its customers.
Meanwhile i have tried calling customer care to inquire about both the numbers. Aircel customer service told me they have not received the request and I need to ask the shop if the form is submitted. Vodafone told me that these are prepaid accounts and both are clear for porting.
This is not an acceptable way of working since the govt mandates 7 days for porting. If there is a delay the customers need to be notified. It has been 27 days since I submitted the forms and 13 days days since i resubmitted one of them.
My other complain is why does local shops charge 80 rupees for a sim that has mrp of 10? This is happening for all sims. I recently bought a sim for vodafone and it had a price tag of 20 but the shopkeeper charged me 80. In case prices are revised then mrp should be updated. How will i know that the shops are not cheating its customers?
