HealthInsurance Premium charged for the entire year for 3 months coverage

Location/place: PUNE

Name of company/service: The Oriental Insurance Company Ltd.

Hi,

I have a query/complaint regarding my employer Group Health Insurance policy.

I am enrolled for the Employer Group Health Insurance policy by employer and expected to pay premium out of my pocket for the dependents. My Health Insurance policy is renewed for the period Apr 2012-March 2013. I am supposed to pay entire premium amount in 4 installments, which are already deducted from my salaries till now. Recently, I’ve resigned from the company and left in June but I didn’t get the refund for the remainder of the year or the coverage for the year.

Please let me know if I can expect the premium paid refunded (after deduction of pro-rata based amount). If the policy doesn’t allow the refund, would I be able to carry this policy coverage for the entire 1yr duration post my employment? I’ve chekd with the TPA and they are saying that no refund or coverage will be given, if I resign during the policy period. Can they really do that, legally?
Please guide if the Insurance company or TPA or the Employer is legally allowed to do this.
Thanks
PSB
