FRAUDULENT TRANSACTION MADE ON MY SBI CREDIT CARD

Myself Md Kamil Hussain holding SBI credit card (4726-4268-9444-1429) received telephone call on 20th December 2014 on my mobile no. 9985666838 on behalf of SBI offering SBI discount card along with some gifts. (Merchant – gifts8home_PayTM MUMBA IN)

The fraud person on phone introduced herself as Rahul Sharma from SBI and provided my name and card no printed on my card details mentioned above. How you people can share such kind of sensitive information with anybody.

He also explained me the offer and asked me to provide required details to other person to process the request.

After some time other person from SBI has called on my phone and explain the same offer and asked me to provide OTP No. which I have received on phone.

I have asked him why does he need that so he told me it is required to process the request to offer the discount card and mentioned gifts.

Hence I have provided the same to him and I got the SMS from SBI mentioning the transaction of 8800/- Rs on my account.

Later on when I contacted SBI customer care they told me it was Fraud call and submit the despute form on your ID.
It was surprising to see the transaction on my SBI credit card without my validation and approval.

I immediately called SBI Call center to get the current status of the case. they are telling m I need to pay the amount. The fraud person on phone introduced herself as Rahul Sharma from SBI and provided my name and card no printed on my card details mentioned above. How they can share such kind of sensitive information with anybody. I didn’t get any call or mail on the investigation status or update. I was not really sure if I am getting the correct feedback from SBI customer care on my case. (Request No – 0133545319430)

These are things happened and now I am in total confusion where my case stand and how to proceed.

Requesting you to look into this and help me to come out of this. As I mentioned I am one of the prudent and satisfied customer of SBI customer till today. I paid all my dues without any default or any issues. Now if you notice these fraud transactions which has come as a bolt from the blue, were made on some Paytm site where I not at all connected I have no connections on this. Moreover I immediately called SBI call center and blocked my card. This is purely a fraud transaction where no single penny of this money has been utilized by me.

Yours faithfully,
Md Kamil Hussain.

  1. OTP (One Time Password) is for the security of the transaction. So even if someone got your card details, they won’t be able to make the transaction until you pass him/her the OTP that you received on your mobile. So that was a mistake you did. You shouldn’t have shared that OTP right away. Instead you should cancel the call and should have contacted the SBI customer care to verify about the call. SBI already gives such warning regarding “do not share your pin or password with anyone, we won’t ask it”, via SMS and emails. I think even while you call the customer care, you sometimes hear that as voice message. So that was your mistake. Secondly, about how they got your card info: probably it was leaked from some website through which you have made purchases recently. Because you will be asked to enter the card details within the website page in certain sites and then only redirected to the payment gateway. In such cases, the websites could store your card info. Only make purchases on trusted online shopping sites. Another possibility is that, if you have used your card in any local POS(Point of Sales, eg: petrol pumps, local shops, etc) they might get the card details too I guess. So there is a chance of being leaked from there too(but am not really sure whether they will get the whole card info or not). Your claim of SBI team sharing the card details, is the least possibility(most probably 0 chance). Because they would be taking high security and they won’t be revealing the details(there might be chance that, the details being leaked could be because of a server glitch. But it has 0.0001% chance to occur). That being said, you could file a complaint in your nearest police station too to trace out the person who impersonated as SBI officer and looted your money! I believe the payment is done probably within India. So, the account to whom the payment was transferred could be easily accessible if you access your card’s transaction history(more detailed access is available to the SBI team to investigate).

That being said, you are also responsible for this incident. Because of the above mentioned things. Am not from SBI team, but am a SBI Credit Card holder and uses my card for online transactions(even foreign transactions to) as well as offline. During the usage, the only thing I found irritating is, if we are making transactions on gateways outside India, only the card details itself would be needed for the payment. No OTP is sent to my mobile, no SMS regarding the transaction, etc. So, SBI team should implement some security on foreign transaction(outside India). But the Cards aren’t enabled to make foreign transactions by default. We need to enable it ourself via the SBI Card dashboard available in sbicard.com. So that we could say as a small security. But SBI should implement a better security for foreign transactions. That’s the only suggestion I have.

Anyway, hope you will be able to regain your money back soon.

    Thank you
