Fined for Metro’s Incompetence suffering from Humiliation & Mental Trauma being a Law Abiding & Responsible Citizen

Sir,

I am a regular Commuter of Metro railway Kolkata and I used to travel on Smart Card No.010250802.for my Daily commute.

I traveled on 10th of June 2013 Monday at 19.05 Hours. and used my Card to gain entry to Jatin Das Park Station platform for my onward Journey to Sovabazar Sutanuti Metro Station.

On my exit Kiosk at Sovabazar the display showed a X (Cross) and from second attempt onward the display showed nothing.

By the time I was taking out my card from my wallet the card chipped on one of the corners.

I went to the station Masters room who just saw the broken card and fined me Rs. 262/- For a Without ticket Journey.

I pleaded with him to cross check if my card balance was already deducted but to no avail.

Sir I was carrying a Card/Valid Ticket from my point of Entry to exit and due to some malfunctioning Machine my card was was somehow not readable at first and subsequently broke due to an error on my part.

My question is that in the back end Server every entry is documented so is it not Metro’s responsibility to ensure to Implement a Robust IT system to cross check a Genuine/regular Commuters request.

The Station Master followed the Book and Fined me because he had limited IT gateways to look at my Innocence (rather without analyzing the depth he just fined a Law abiding Citizen as a Common Cheat/Thug).

It still infuriates me that I was pronounced guilty without trial and as per the constitution which states Innocent until proven Guilty, with the burden of Proof lying on the state I was Charged even though the circumstances were pointing to my innocence.

I request you to Please ask Metro to verify the card No.010250802 to asses if any balance was deducted from the said Card number on the 10 th June or Not, because if the balance was deducted then the Fine on me was a grave error on part of metro railway Kolkata.

Further sir, It was my only commute via metro on 10th June 2013. so My innocence would be proved if the Metro server vindicates the deduction of Money from the said card.

I further request on behalf of Innocent commuters to you to ensure that fair practices and robust Checks & balances are in Place in the age of IT revolution at Kolkata metro Railway so that no one else passes through the agony of guilt that i am going through.
