Excess charges for GPRS service

Location/place: Pune, Maharashtra

Name of company/service: Airtel

I’m using Airtel service for about 5 years now. I have activated GPRS service on my mobile (Rs.46 for 15days 500MB usage plan). This plan gets auto renovated after every 15 days. Today when i saw my current balance, then found that there was excess deduction in my balance. When i checked with the Airtel customer service, they said that your GPRS pack was not auto-renovated (was not activated) when you were using GPRS service. It was activated in the afternoon at around 3:30. When they say its 15 days pack doesn’t mean you will get service for exact (15*24) hrs. They active service in the day time, but stop the same at midnight 12 after 15 days. Also they do not send any kind of notification that your service has been deactivated and now you will be charged with our default pack or something like this. User gets charged heavily for his usages during this service non-activation period. They have deduced some around Rs.600/- in last almost a year time.

In another incident i found that, even if you deactivate the GPRS service, the default pack will be always be activated on your mobile and any accidental hit to web browser or mails will result into heavy deduction in your balance. When i checked this with service provider, they said you need to delete service settings from your mobile as well. Now my question is, if i have deactivated that service how come they could charge me for the internet usage?

TRAI and consumer court must look in it immediately.

Thanks,
Dhananjay
