Credit Balance-Indigo Airlines

Location/place: Jaipur

During Dec’11 I made a ticket through Indigo website—www.goindigo.in and paid Rs 6658 through my credit card.Later I cancelled it and after deducting some alteration charges my net refund amount was Rs 4434.There are two options one is to ask for refund immediately and the other is to keep this amount with the account of Indigo website to be used up later.
Four days ago i.e on 20th Jan’13 I made another ticket and thought that my credit balance amount of Rs 4434 will get adjusted. It dint and I paid full amount for the new tickets.
I called up Indigo customer relations and also sent mail for refund but they says this amount has lapsed as it should had been utilised in a years time.
It sound unfair. How can a airline forfeit my unutilised amount? Is this a penalty for not utilising my own fund in a years time? They dint informed me that the amount is lapsing.Their duty should be to call/mail us or they themselve should refund the amount during that period.
They say you tick terms and conditions column…but do we tick to lose money..if everything was made very clear will anybody ever keep refund amount with them…A BIG NO.
Even do bank forfeit deposits lying idle in a account for more than a year OR a lapse divident cheque is not revalidated?
I am quite surprised by such an act of an Airline of such a repute.
Please help me out for this refund amount.
