Broadband Installation

Location/place: Kolkata

Name of company/service: Airtel

Dear Sir/Madam

I applied for an airtel broadband conncetion on 11th of June 2012 (contact person: Mr Indrajit) and paid a sum of Rs 500. I am not very sure about your SLAs for broadband installation but I was told at the time that the installation will happen within 48 hours. However, I recieved a call on 14th of June 2012, from installtion team and I came back from office to have the installation done. At first a guy Mr Avijit came to my place and started openning some of the conceals and joining wires. When I asked him about broadband, he said that another person should be coming to my place in around 3 hours for configuration of router. For me, waiting for 3 hours was not possible and hence I asked Mr Avijit to leave immediately. In around 10 minutes, I recieved a call from a guy who claimed to be head of Airtel Kolkata Broadband Installation and was assured that the installation will happen within 30 minutes. A guy from Airtel (can’t remember his name) came within 5 mins. He asked for my laptop and router to complete the installation. After having a look at my laptop (Macbook pro running on OSX), his first demand was that I should get a new laptop with Windows installed on it. When I reasoned with him (It was nowhere written in Airtel brochure that it can be run on Windows only), he started configuring the router. After a while, he told me that my router is not working. I have been using the same router for last two years(in and out of India) and it never gave me a problem. So I asked him if he can use his router to confirm the same. However, the configuration could be done in 30 mins (as agreed) so I asked the person to leave so that I can continue with my office work. I also told him that, this being the attitude of Airtel, please spare me the trouble and that I did not want any conncetion from Airtel.

After some time, I got a call from Mr Indrajit who started abusing me. I reciprocated in the same manner.

Today, at 5:53 PM, I got a call from some Mr Anuj, who claimed to be head of Airtel Kolkata. When I requested him that I don’t want any further calls from Airtel, and that I will complain against him, he said and I quote “Aap jante nahin hain ki mai kaun hun. Mere saamne aapki koi aukaat nahin hai. Aap mera kuch nahi ukhad sakte. Mai aapke ghar me ghus sakta hun”. I disconnected the phone after listening to this, but have been thinking about it ever since. I have informed my apratment security about this incident and requested them not to allow anybody from Airtel to my apartment.

With these kind of goons who threaten people for simple broadband conncetion, I am not very sure if Airtel should be allowed to contact common people. Kindly advise what pecautions I should take in future.

I am not very sure if this email will be read or any action will be taken for this. I am not sure if this email going to right audience. But please suggest me a way out of this mess. I don’t want to have any contact with anybody from airtel in future.

Regards,
