airtel is cheating customers

Name of company/service: airtel

I am a 63 year old retired senior citizen and use my mobile phone (airtel) 9831020879 merely to receive and make calls. I do not use any other service such as internet etc.

On Saturday 18 August at 8.27 p.m., I received an sms on my mobile from airtel as follows: “Thank you for downloading Games from Airtel Live WAP. You have been charged Rs 99.”

I was shocked! At my age, the last thing I would be interested in doing is download games! I rang up airtel customer care many times to report the matter but they refused to listen to me.

I then registered a written complaint to airtel through their website and received an acknowledgement PR081800304 on 18.8.12. However, though today is the third day after the incident, airtel has not bothered to contact me and solve my problem.

I may add that this is not the first time I have had such problems with airtel. They find dubious ways of charging customers by catching them unawares. It seems they are taking their recent advertisement “Jo tera hai woh mera hai” very seriously by debiting customers arbitrarily and suddenly!

Could I request you to help resolve the problem. The issue is not so much the matter of a loss of Rs 99. What is more important is the aggressive manner in which companies such as airtel harrass thousands of customers and try to earn revenue by hook or (as in my case) by crook. I know many customers who have suffered through airtel malpractices.
