Airtel disconnected eight years old prepaid number

It is very disturbing to know that Airtel has disconnected by eight years old prepaid number, without any communication due to the non usage for over 3 months. I understand the three months guidelines by TRAI, however the service provider should atleast check before disconnecting through email address that we share at the time of document submission. What is the need of providing document. I have visited the ARC-Sahara Mall Gurgaon, escalated to the nodal and appellate. All they tell me is that “the number is in the market for sale and we can’t trace it back”. How primitive that can be as a distribution network for a company–Airtel, that is aiming to foray abroad. All my investments and bank details are linked with this account.

It would be great if someone can look into this immediately. I really need to know the next level of escalation before it gets issued to a new customer. The nodal and appellate have failed miserably in providing any solution in this issue. This is totally unacceptable and needs to be looked into it urgently. I have another 6 airtel numbers within my family and would not like to contnue with them if this is what their service levels are.
