In a postpaid plan the consumer had no way of knowing about the data consumption and is totally dependent upon the message sent by customer care (about the data consumption)
My bill for the period 3rd May-2nd July came to be around Rs 3160 out of which Rs 1560 was for excess data charges. I was shocked to check that, since i did not get any message from the customer care citing that my Data Pack has expired or is getting expired as i was completely dependent upon that information to take a new data pack or not. The last message i got was on 31st of may stating that i had used approx 400mb of data.
Post that i was not informed about my data consumption.
When i wrote a complain to airtel customer care, they gave a blank reply stating that i was informed on 31st of may regarding 400mb of data usage (Well, the data pack was of 512mb and who is responsible for informing the customer when the data pack expires ?? )
After consecutive mails also the data issue was not resolved.
A day after that my phone got stolen in a bus on 7th June.
I mailed them up and asked for blocking my sim and waited for the bill of june to come to do the final settlement.
The bill for june was shocker, the total amount i was asked to pay was Rs 7732 (Rs 3160 for previous month+ Rs 4572 for the current month) This bill was just for the 5 days of usage!!
Upon checking the bill i found out that, my plan was changed from Rs 199 to Rs 351.57. And for approx 300 mb of data usage i was asked to pay around Rs 3500 as excess data charges (But i had already had a data pack for free 512mb!)
I again mailed airtel’s customer care on 11th of July citing the fraud in the bill but got an answer on 14th July saying “We regret to inform you that we are unable to accommodate your request as the mobile mentioned is not a valid mobile number”
I am stuck in a situation where i feel cheated and no body from the Customer Care bothers to “Care”
This kind of malpractice and trashy customer service was not expected from Airtel.
