increasing rate of intrest on debts

here one man who is running his interest business who had given my dad debit amount of 40000 has taking 10% interest on the amount given but due to financial problem we were unable to give him the interest but now he increased his rate of interest to 15% now he demands for 1 lakh and fifty thousand we dont know how to repay it..
