Location/place: Gurgaon
Name of company/service: Airtel
We have always been a loyal customer of Airtel for more than a decade . They have always provided us good customer service and support, and quickly rectified any faults.
However this time, we were totally shocked with their service and pretty much done with Airtel. We were living in Sector 52 Gurgaon and had to move to a new apartment in sector 47, in Gurgaon itself, Before moving we gave them a call and gave the details of our address and they said it will take maximum of five days. Since I work from home, I asked them to do it urgently, which they always do. I kept calling them everyday twice or thrice so that we get our internet going asap. On the third day we received an address confirmation call and they said someone will be there, so we waited all day, no one turned up. Fourth day we received a call again and Airtel engineers were on their way, we came home and no one turned up. By fifth day we had already talked with so many Airtel executives for our line transfer, we were pretty frustrated. On the fifth day again we received a call again and they said someone will be in our new apartment to activate the line, no surprises – no one turned up . We tried calling the engineer back in the same number and he literally cut us off. We have filed a complaint again him. Around 8pm we revived a call from Airtel and they said that the area we moved in is not feasible, so the cannot provide us any service….Hello!! What they hell had they been doing for past five days? Calling us for address confirmation and not even having the courtesy to tell us before we moved to our new apartment. I work from home so it is really frustrating as I haven’t been able to get to number of urgent emails.
It gets more interesting now:
After battling with Airtel executives all day today, we decided to ask for a new connection. We were surprised to receive rapid calls from so many Airtel sales rep for a new connection; and same day Airtel sales rep came over to our new apartment to give us a new connection. Surprisingly, it was feasible to give us a new connection, but not feasible to transfer an old connection. Why? There was a catch. We had broadband, landline and iptv. So the catch was that we had to pay Rs. 3500.00 for a new iptv set -top box, Rs500.00 for broadband and some advance fee. We already have a set top box, wifi router, so why do we pay for the whole damn thing again. Does tnat make sense? They said, “its a new connection you see?” They want new customers, but they dont give a shit about their old customers and blatantly rip them off.
Airtel is literally trying to rip us off. We have been a loyal customer since Airtel started in India and that’s how they give us value from their so called “platinum” and “gold care” service.
I just a got an MTS dongle today just to access my emails. We are so disappointed with Airtel we are looking for a new service provider, probably Reliance or BSNL. India really needs more good ISP providers. We also have three post paid connections with Airtel, and we are looking at switching to another service provider as long as the number remains the same.
