laptop with faulty hardrive

Name of company/service: Dell India

When I ran diagnostics on laptop, it showed me some error.When i called customer care, they said it might be problem with operating system.There own technician came and reinstalled OS.Even after doing that diagnostics report was showing same error code.I didnt bother as it was not affecting my use.Now after end of my warranty time dell people are asking me to replace my hardrive(asking me to pay for it) as this error code tells that problem is with the hard drive and it may result in loss of data some day.I have all my case numbers and emails received from dell in year 2011 about which they say they dont have any records.
