Dues peding from previous owner

Location/place: Navi Mumbai

I have purchased a flat in a society. The Society had given me NOC mentioning that there are no pending dues from the owner. The same thing was also mentioned in the “Sale Deed” agreement which the owner had signed. After a year it was found that the owner had not paid the maintenance for last two years prior to sell of flat. Now the society has imposed the dues on me. Society says that since the accounting was not done earlier,the dues were not calculated. I have informed the previous owner about this thing, but he is not bothered about it. Please advise what needs to be done.
