Overseas Travel Insurance Claims

Location/place: Andheri – Mumbai

Name of company/service: ICICI Lombard General Insurance

I am Lajpat Valecha, residing at Andheri Mumbai.
This is regarding claims to be made from ICICI Lombard in relation with Overseas Travel Insurance
I had purchased Overseas Travel Insurance from ICICI Lombard
i) Policy No. 4030/W-11716136/00/000
Policy Holder Name : Pooja Valecha (my daughter)
Age : 9 years
Period : 26-Oct-2012 to 12-Nov-2012 (original policy period)

ii) Policy No. 4030/W-11716097/00/000
Policy Holder Name : Karishma Valecha (wife)
Age : 39 years
Period : 26-Oct-2012 to 12-Nov-2012 (original policy period)

iii) My daughter Pooja Valecha (Policy No. 4030/W-11716136/00/000) fell sick during this period, for which she had undergone hospitalization and treatment at USA.

Due to my daughter’s illness, I had decided to extend both the policy for few more days, since it may happen we might have to extend the duration of stay and continuation of medical treatment.
Just to be on safer side, I got both the policies extended for another 5 days, i.e. Policy period 26-Oct-2012 to 17-Nov-2012 (extended policy period), by paying the additional premium amount for Extending 5 days policy period.

My daughter Pooja’s health came under control before 12-Nov-2012 and travelled back to India by 12-Nov-2012.
Due to this I got cancelled the only Extended Policy period, keeping the Original Policy Period valid.
I had clearly mentioned in my emails to ICICI Lombard to cancel only the Extended Policy Period of 5 days for the two policies, keeping the original policy from 26-Oct-2012 to 12-Nov-2012 active.
I got the refund amount of the extended days, hence my original policy remains active/valid i.e. until 12-Nov-2012.

Once we came back from our vacation from USA to India (Mumbai) we had submitted the Claim form along with the Hospitalization documents and Medical bills to ICICI Lombard at Andheri-Mumbai branch.
Hospital Treatment and Medical Bills submitted dates are till 12-Nov-2012.

On 29-Dec-2012 I received email from ICICI Lombard mentioning the will not be able to process the claims since the payment is not made for the policy
I was really shocked to receive such email from ICICI Lombard, and told them I have made the payment and my policy is valid.

On 2-Jan-2013 ICIC Lombard asked me to provide the payment proof.
I replied to their email on 5-Jan-2013, mentioning them I have purchased the policy online using my credit card, and attached my credit card statement, as a proof, indicating payment made to ICICI Lombard on 24-Oct-2012.

On 20-Jan-2013 I have received message from ICICI Lombard on my alternate email id as the policy has been cancelled on 29-Nov-2012 on my request and the payment will be refunded.

Here they are falsely claiming – I have clearly mentioned I have only raised request cancellation of Extended Policy keeping the original policy intact/valid/active
I have already received refund for the extension policy.
Hence the original policy is valid till 12-Nov-2012, and I have not raised any request for cancellation of original policy.

It is clearly indication of Exploitation by ICICI Lombard, while making the claims.

Requesting you to please go through my matter and I need complete refund along with penalties from ICICI.
